This study aimed at identifying and measuring assessment criteria in audition situation to the orchestral excerpt for flute from Claude Debussy´s Prélude à l´après-midi d´un faune from the standpoint of technical and interpretative skills presented in the literature. The investigation followed an exploratory path and consisted of a hybrid approach directed at professional flute players in Brazil and abroad, fluent in Brazilian Portuguese. The procedure of data collection occurred through a self-administrated questionnaire comprised by four questions, namely, three quantitative and a qualitative one using SurveyMonkey®. As a result, the participants defined four technical and interpretative skills as assessment criteria; however, they pointed out intonation and phrasing as the most important ones. Lastly, the professional flute players did not report breathing among the main assessment criteria in audition situation as we had expected.
