Abstract

Analysis of the compositional processes involved in H. Villa-Lobos’s Choros nº. 5 regarding formal, harmonic,
rhythmic and melodic aspects and their relation to rhetorical elements (within the concept of musical figures) in order to
find out the generating impulse that organizes the work in a broad, coherent and complete structure.

Author Biography

  • Carlos Alberto Assis, State University of Paraná

    Carlos Alberto Assis is a pianist and composer, graduated in piano from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná, where he teaches Music Theory and Structure (Harmony), Applied Biology to Music, and Piano. He holds a Master's degree in Music Performance from the Federal University of Bahia. In 1998, he achieved 2nd place in the 1st Guerra Peixe Composition Award at the Villa-Lobos Music School in Rio de Janeiro. In 2000, he earned 3rd place in the 3rd Guerra Peixe Composition Award at the same school. He has been a faculty member at various Music Festivals and Workshops (Curitiba, Londrina, Maringá, Cascavel, among others) and has worked as a pianist-repetiteur in the staging of several operas both in Brazil and abroad. In 2005, he performed the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas. He is also a medical doctor graduated from the Evangelical College of Paraná, with specialization in Homeopathy and Acupuncture, and is a teacher and practitioner of Tai Chi Chuan.
