About the Journal
The Revista Brasileira de Linguística Aplicada (Brazilian Journal of Applied Linguistics) was created in 2001, initially as a semiannual, printed journal of the Graduate Program in Linguistic Studies at the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. In 2010, the publication became quarterly. In 2015, the print format was discontinued and the journal became exclusively electronic, in accordance with open access policies. In 2023, the journal adopted a continuous publication model while maintaining four issues per year. In 2025, it started following research communication in the Open Science modus operandi.
RBLA has the mission of promoting research in the field of Applied Linguistics, publishing original papers that report on the many phenomena related to real-life language issues, language learning, or language use in diverse contexts. Articles that understand Applied Linguistics as mere application of linguistic theories are not accepted by the journal. It is currently directed by Prof. Junot de Oliveira Maia (UFMG).
RBLA was classified as A1 in the 2021–2024 quadrennium of Qualis Periódicos (CAPES).
