Artificial intelligence has proven to be a promising tool in Mining Engineering education, assisting in the mediation of complex content and the diversification of teaching strategies. This study analyzed the application of two generative artificial intelligence tools (ChatGPT-4 and DeepSeek-V3) in the Mining Engineering course at the Federal University of the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri Valleys (UFVJM), Janaúba campus, at Minas Gerais, comparing the performance of both and discussing possible contributions to the teaching-learning process. The research, of an experimental and qualitative-quantitative nature, involved the evaluation of responses generated by ChatGPT-4 and DeepSeek-V3, separated into two groups of distinct levels of complexity. The results indicated a better overall performance of DeepSeek-V3, with theoretical grounding being its strongest point according to the instructors, while ChatGPT-4 was noted for providing answers with better structure and organization. Therefore, it is important to understand the need for using each artificial intelligence, relying on its strengths, especially when considering the context of teaching in higher education in Mining Engineering.
