Studying the Padovan sequence in the Mathematics Teaching Laboratory

The present work is an experience report, presenting a didactic teaching sequence for the study of the Padovan sequence through its geometric representation. From this, there is a methodological approach, based on Didactic Engineering as a research methodology and on the Theory of Didactic Situations as a teaching theory, allowing an investigation of Padovan numbers based on their geometric representations. Thus, there is the investigative field of Padovan numbers, starting with a discussion of the students, around recurrent linear sequences, starting from the Fibonacci sequence and presenting its relationship with the studied sequence. The production of data occurred during the classes of the Mathematics Teaching Laboratory discipline of the Licentiate in Mathematics course, in a higher education institution located in the state of Ceará. The results were analyzed from the proposition of a problem situation, based on the Theory of Didactic Situations. Thus, it was possible to carry out a study of the Padovan sequence, allowing students to build knowledge, in view of the geometric representation of these numbers. Finally, it is possible to observe the students' experiences in relation to the practice carried out, as well as the teachers' perceptions.
