Abstract

This article examines the modern state as an epistemological technology of archiving, showing how bureaucratic practices and documentary devices operate exclusionary classifications that silence historically marginalized subjects. Based on a theoretical, documentary, and critical approach—drawing on Derrida, Foucault, Stoler, and Santos—the study analyzes four dimensions: the archive as a power technology, bureaucracy as an architecture of invisibility, the persistence of the colonial archive, and the insurgency of popular counter-archives. Findings reveal that state recognition relies on a forced legibility, producing naturalized epistemic exclusions. The article concludes by emphasizing the urgency of decolonizing archiving infrastructures and valuing insurgent memory practices and cognitive justice.
