The starting point of this paper is the connection between art and nature considered
through a very specific perspective: the concepts of likeness of nature and living in
accordance with nature. These are ideas here related to Stoic philosophy and presented as
new possibilities for interpreting a significant portion of contemporary artistic production,
which is exemplified in the text through some works by Italian artist Giuseppe Penone. By aligning himself with nature and imitating its operative procedures, this artist creates a symbolic link between human beings and the cosmos. In this way, he establishes an ethical
relationship with the natural world, which can perhaps serve as a reference for our time.
