A translation of Vilém Flusser’s essay “Art and Politics”, accompanied by an introduction and notes by Flávio Américo Tonnetti and Gabriel Souza Figueiredo. The original essay explores the relationship between art and politics, starting from Plato’s conception of them as equivalent, to discuss the subsequent separation and inversion of roles that occurred in Modernity, seeking to analyze how art – as technē, driven by technology – assumes a governmental role in contemporary society. The translation of the typewritten original sought to preserve Flusser’s stylistic idiosyncrasies, as detailed in the preceding introduction and explanatory notes.
