The paper offers an aesthetic and anthropological perspective on Vila Vintém, a small community located in the municipality of Cantá, Roraima, Brazil. Situated along the banks of the Branco River and subject to seasonal flooding, the village is home to brickmakers whose artisanal practices date back to the 1980s, driven by migratory flows from northeastern Brazil and, more recently, Venezuela. In the midst of land disputes and legal actions threatening eviction, this study seeks to uncover how such a marginal territory,
often perceived as a “non-place,” is imbued with meaning and identity. The methodology is
grounded in photographic anthropology, using images as tools for listening, analysis, and the creation of cultural meaning. Based on fieldwork and dialogue with residents, the
authors employ documentary photography to confront social invisibility and affirm the power of visual narratives as instruments of resistance and recognition.
