The purpose of this article is to discuss the way in which the artists Massimo Campigli and Emiliano Di Cavalcanti worked with the representation of the female figure in their artistic creations in the first half of the 20th century. Although active in different countries - France and Italy in the case of Campigli and Brazil, in that of Di Cavalcanti - their numerous creations depicting female figures have significant intersections in two senses: as responses to the phenomenon of the "Return to Order" and to the current politics in their countries; and as ways of appropriating the figure of women.
