The role of university libraries, as support bodies for the development of scientific research, technological innovation projects and interaction with society, has undergone numerous transformations within higher education institutions. The transformations refer above all to the characterization of the activities of information professionals, who have started to work more directly in the development of information products and services, in research, innovation and social interaction teams. The emergence of socio-technical phenomena, such as Big Data, the Internet of Things and the legal provisions related to public access to information, are attributed to a large part of the changes experienced in academic contexts.
