Muito mais do que Isolamento em questão: Ciência, poder e interesses em uma análise das duas primeiras Conferências Internacionais de Lepra - Berlim 1897 e Bergen 1909

Resumo

Este artigo pretende analisar a transformação do isolamento dos leprosos em um polêmico e divergente Paradigma Científico. Nascido nas duas primeiras conferências internacionais de lepra em Berlim 1897 e em Bergen na Noruega em 1909, ele se formou sob uma efervecente e competitiva atmosfera acadêmica, onde estavam em jogo muitos outros interesses políticos, nacionais e pessoais. O retorno da lepra à Europa após um período relativamente longo de desaparecimento, aliado aos riscos e incovenientes comerciais que instigava às suas pretenções imperialistas, transformavam esta doença não apenas em um problema social que sempre fora, mas agora também em um problema científico e político que clamava soluções urgentes de uma recém-formada classe de médicos. Seres humanos que serão aqui reconhecidos e valorizados. Critica-los ou tentar encontrar entre eles vencedores e vencidos não constitui a intenção deste trabalho, mas sim tentar contextualiza-los individual, temporal e socialmente, instigando novas perspectivas de análise para a historiografia da ciência.

Abstract:
This article intends to analyze the transformation of the isolation of lepers into to a polemic and divergent scientific paradigm. Originated on the first two International Conferences of Leprosy in Berlin 1897 and Bergen, Norway 1909, it became an effervescent and competitive academic atmosphere, where many political, national and personal interests were at stake. The leprosy's return to Europe after a relatively long period of its disappearance, along with the risks and inconvenient commercials that instigated imperialist ambitions, turn this disease into not only a social problem that has always been but also a scientific and political problem that cried out for urgent solutions from a out-of-college doctors class. Human beings will be recognized and esteemed here. Criticize them or aim to find winners and defeated ones among them is not the purpose of this article. Instead, it is an attempt to contextualize them individually, temporally and socially, instigating new perspectives of analyzes for the historiography of science.
