Abstract

It proposes to know the production of the Aesculapius about leprosy in the end of the XIX century and beginning of the XX century, by approaching the definitions about the disease and the circularity of knowledge among the science doctors in Belém, in the state of Pará, and their interlocutions with the scientific production in other countries, having in mind the references that were used in scientific articles and their demands before a disease that generated innumerous doubts in the universe of medicine. Special attention was directed to the leprosy remedial practices going beyond the allopathic medicine, extending to the so-called charlatans and healers, taking into consideration that the act of curing is directly linked to the values and the culture of a given society.
