Abstract

The reality of the Dutch overseas enterprises in the seventeenth century became essential to the consolidation of overseas conquests that would subsidize the commercial interests of the Dutch bourgeois. However, beyond merely economic issues, the political, military and religious dynamics in which the main Dutch leaders were involved would influence the processes of the European republican movement in the Netherlands. In this sense, this communication will focus on the aforementioned historical context, associating it with the origin of the initial overseas enterprises that were made possible by the creation of the East India Company and the West India Company, to discuss the founding phenomena of Dutch society 17th century.
