Abstract

This article investigates Gendered Racism in the book of short stories The Thing Around Your Neck (2009) by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, through representations and metaphors of the narrative. Gendered Racism is an oppression characterized by interconnecting racism and sexism in black women. The objective was to understand how this oppression occurs by Adichie in her short stories, considering that she is an  Nigerian author, a country dominated by the British until 1960, and who underwent several imperial interventions, such as the establishment of the genre. Women are victims of a process of double oppression and exclusion in Nigerian society, as a legacy left by the colonizers. Thus, Gendered Racism was perceived in five different themes in the source studied, they are: Decolonization, Immigration, Affectivity, Body Policies and Narrative Aspects.
