Abstract

Throughout the first half of the 20th century, populations of immigrant origin in Brazil lived with state policies that aimed at their integration into the Brazilian national perspective, known as “nationalization policies”. These, during the Estado Novo (1937-1945), were formalized through the “Nationalization Campaign”. In the case of the Porto Novo region, in the west of Santa Catarina, formed mainly by people of German origin, the State gradually inserted its institutions, until the 1930s, when, in light of Germany's imperialist actions, and policies increasingly nationalist, began an accelerated process of nationalization at the local level. Thus, through state institutions, and based on prohibitions on cultural manifestations, the State aimed to secure the border, as well as eliminate an “ethnic cyst”, nationalizing the population. In this sense, in this paper we will focus on the topic, presenting the theme from state institutions at the local level and their relations with the population.
