Abstract

The present article intends to look at the intellectual of the medieval west of the thirteenth century, highlighting the structures that made possible the essential change from vir litteratus to scholasticus, that is, the medieval city and university. After establishing scholastic methods of teaching and learning, we pay special attention to the Collationes in Hexaëmeron of the Franciscan theologian Bonaventure of Bagnoregio. From our point of view, the collatio XIX is illuminating about how the formation of Christian intellectuals was given beyond the lessons in the classroom.
