history and politics in the process of patrimonialization Ouro Preto city
Abstract
The article brings some reflections on the patrimonialization of Ouro Preto, seeking to understand how this process has perpetuated over the years in the city. Supported by the long duration perspective, we focus on the construction of official history and public heritage, at the local level. For that, we used newspapers and books written in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the minutes of the Advisory Council of the Ouro Preto Chamber, from 1931 to 1936. In this way, we try to shed light on other actors, such as intellectuals and Minas Gerais politicians, selected memories and already prioritized the cultural assets located in the “historic center” of the city, later sanctified by the São Paulo modernists and by the SPHAN architects.
