Abstract

The article analyzes the hinterland cities formation, in special in Juazeiro/BA and in Petrolina/PE, focusing in the architectural ensemble. Discusses the social formation of the cities formation and the economic and cultural change to get in the constructions with the use of the plateau already by the end of century XIX and beginning of the XX century, accomplished by Foreman and craftsmen that learned profession in the daily work. Many of the frescoes and drawings, nowadays is already on track of extinction, due to the new constructives realities, changes in the use of materials, the lack of professionals with knowledge of the techniques of the past. The theoretical referencial is based in the Depth Hermeneutics by John B. Thompson and the methdology made use of intervieing the residents and of photographics images. It was find the use of cultural and social that the residents made of this residences and the belonging related to the memory and culture.
