Abstract

This article is a reflection on the work Sexo e Beleza (1938) written by the doctor, journalist and painter Hernani de Irajá, who produced a set of works on sexuality and female beauty, from the 1920s to the 1960s. We seek to understand how the author produced a scientific and artistic narrative about the body of women, contributing to the construction of representations about ideals of femininity, sexuality and beauty in Brazil. Through writing and iconography of the source, we tried to understand how the ideals defended by Irajá were in dialogue with the biological conceptions of the period, especially those of Eugenia and Medicine.
