Abstract

This article covers the events of Cuba’s History between the 50s and the 60s of the 20th Century. The main subject is the Cuban Revolution and, more especific, the event – where more than one thousand cubans exiled, trained and financed by the CIA, disembark in Cuba – known as Bay of Pigs Invasion. Our main objective is to analyze how the Brazilian press represented the invasion and our especific objectives are to demonstrate the complexity of the Cuban revolutionary process and to understand how the attempt to invade Cuba broughtthe Cold War to the Americas. There is a meaningful scarcity of papers in Portuguese that favor the attempted invasion of the Bay of Pigs; however, this event is always present in pieces that are worried, in a historical perspective, with the Cuban Revolution. Thus, we used as secundary sources of research the bibliography about the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro and as primary sources four important newspapers from Brazilian mainstream press in the 50s and 60s: Diário de Notícias, Última Hora, Correio da Manhã and Jornal do Brasil, all of them from Rio de Janeiro, city that until April’s 1960 was the capital of Brazil, and available on the Hemeroteca da Biblioteca Nacional.
