Abstract

One of the most emphatic events of the Hebrew Bible is surely the Exodus; that is, the deliverance of the people of Israel who were captive in Egypt. Experts in the history of Israel and Judah have recently debated what are the historical roots of the Exodus Tradition, since the event, as narrated by the Bible, was dismissed as a verifiable historical event by archaeology. The present work aims to analyze the roots of the Exodus in the Egyptian occupation and presence in Canaan between the 15th and 10th centuries BC, and how this was preserved in the memory of the ethnic groups that were part of the Kingdom of Israel in its early days.
