Abstract

This article has as source of analysis the work Manual de Confessores e Penitentes de Martin de Azpilcueta Navarro. We seek to understand to what extent we can think of modern auricular confession, based on two philosophical concepts. The first is the concept of Pessoa developed by the Spanish philosopher Julián Marías, where the narrative, argumentative and dramatic factor of life is implicit; and, second, Parrhesia, that is, the frankness and true saying: the word that transforms. The concept was abroaded and studied by Michel Foucault in his course Hermeneutics course. These elements together characterize what we call Personal Confession.
