Abstract

The present text aims to analyze the sounds and voices present in the documentary Terra Cabocla (2015) produced by Márcia Paraiso. Marked by the Contestado War (1912-1916), the region of the Santa Catarina Plateau still has as inhabitants the descendants of the subjects who fought in this conflict, which ended up allowing their culture to remain alive until today.  Therefore, the final scene of the documentary was chosen with the objective of presenting the diverse cultural manifestations of the caboclos, especially those related to musical culture. Along with this, we sought to give voice to the main actors of this documentary in order to value their culture, since we understand that it is through this culture that social meanings are built and reconstructed. Furthermore, it brings a counterpoint to the dominant narrative in relation to the caboclos. Thus, it was noticed that this culture has as a mark a resistance of constant cultural re-signification that goes back to before the war, but above all, has this conflict as a factor present in the memory of these subjects.
