Abstract

This paper analyzes the representation of the events of the coup d'état of 1964, which were represented in the Piauí´s bookmedia, using the newspapers: O Dominical and O Dia, as historical sources. In addition to the meaning of the definition of “Revolution”, inserted in the Piauí newspapers, the process of production and reception by the readers will be investigated. The guiding question of the historical investigation concerns the use of the term "Revolution" as a linguistic and discursive construction, referring to the events that resulted in the deposition of the elected president João Goulart. The methodology used instrumentalized the hemerographic production, with a qualitative and bibliographic approach. Moreover, the work was done having as main theoretical references: Ferreira and Gomes (2014); Gomes (2014); Motta (2021); Napolitano (2020); Pasquino (1998); Le Goff (1990).
