Abstract

The present study reflects on the potential of sensitive themes in the teaching of history, both for the citizenship formation of critical students, and for the teacher's own reflection on the political, social and ethical role of him and his discipline. In this sense, we also touch on current and controversial themes about the teaching of history, such as: the social functions of history, the dimensions of public history and the role of new information and communication technologies in society and in teaching. Without, however, trying to close the debate, but developing it through the discussion about the teaching of history and its political commitment to building an increasingly plural, democratic and active society in the struggle against social injustice.
