Abstract

Marabá (PA), from the 1920s, came to be dominated by alliances and political groups linked to the cultivation of Brazil nuts. Traditional and privileged families in the region have always been in power, in exchange for political support, in their relationships with state political actors. In this article, we analyze and interpret 9 (nine) photographs that represent fragments about the visit of the secretary general of the state of Pará, Deodoro Machado de Mendonça to the city of Marabá (PA), in 1927, seeking to reflect his influence on marabaense politics and the transformation of the city of Marabá (PA), in the 1920s. This study confirms how much they allow interesting and intriguing readings and narratives, visualizing the urban transformations of the city of Marabá (PA), society and mainly the dominant elite, which controlled the political-economically city, in contrast, the poverty of the vast majority of the population demonstrated by the submissive pose and the clothing that they wore.
