Abstract

Alberto Bins was an illustrious personality in Rio Grande do Sul industry and politics. His name and surname, in addition to indicating an important avenue located in the center of Porto Alegre/RS, can reveal aspects of domination and power in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, such as the profile of the political and energy elites and the conflicts that marked the beginning period of the republic until the final years of the Vargas Era. However, the surname Bins has a social existence prior to Alberto, thinking about it, and in the concern to understand the construction of the political-business power of this personality in the history of Rio Grande do Sul, this article starts from an investigation of the traces and records of the surname Bins, mainly in post-mortem inventories. Thus, this research intended to investigate the history of this immigrant family, its strategies, composition and articulations of medical, social and cultural resources that elevate the Bins surname to a space of power both in the political environment and in the business space.
