Abstract

This article seeks to understand how contemporary brazilian visual arts are sources of intelligibility for historical knowledge, going against a current in Art History that tends to treat images exclusively as documentary sources. To substantiate the argument and demonstrate the possibility of this movement, works by the bahian visual artist Tiago Sant’ana, produced between 2017 and 2019, are used, which dialogue with the present time and the brutalizing past of colonization.
