Colaborações de viajantes e missionários para a elaboração de uma história regional: um olhar sobre os relatos de Simão Estácio da Silveira e Padre Antônio Vieira

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the reports made about the territory of Maranhão by one of the pioneers of Portuguese colonization in Maranhão, Captain Simão Estácio da Silveira in his work Relação sumaria das cousas do Maranhão in 1624. In addition, we approach the descriptions of Father Antônio Vieira entitled Relação da Missão da Serra de Ibiapaba written by the missionary Father Antônio Vieira¸ who led the evangelizing expedition in Serra de Ibiapaba, Ceará, from 1655, considering the context in which these authors were immersed. We will use as a theoretical reference some works such as the Chapters of Colonial History 1500-1800 by João Capistrano de Abreu, and the work entitled Cultura e Opulência do Brasil by André João Antonil, in which both address religious and economic aspects of the colonial period.
