Hannah Arendt and the opportunity for a new relationship with history – 1952 to 1961

Abstract

the article on screen investigates Hannah Arendt's writings from the phase of her life called reconciliation with the world. It starts from her realization of the break with tradition in living experience to explore the proposition of a new relationship with history. This new relationship is not explicit, on the contrary, it is diluted and camouflaged throughout her work. In this way, we question what is the main link between the break with tradition in living experience and the foundation of his writing of history from 1952 to 1961? Therefore, we aim to: a) identify the arendtian finding of rupture; and b) analyze the link between rupture and Arendt's writing of history. In order to make this analytical endeavor possible, we used four categories from the koselleckian Begriffsgeschichte: a) ausgrenzung; b) space of experience; c) horizon of expectation; and d) layers of experience. Thus, we end up with the following considerations: a) a realization of the break with tradition; and b) the opening up of the opportunity for a new relationship with history.
