Os traços do paraíso em William Blake
matrizes barrocas na linguagem emblemática de ‘For Children: The Gates of Paradise’ de 1793
Abstract
William Blake was an artist of unique originality who never received due recognition in his lifetime. One of the reasons for this ostracism from the British artistic mainstream is usually attributed to the creation of an art deviating from the standards of his time. This article aims to investigate the relationship between Blake's pictorial universe and the cultural, visual, mythical and religious matrices of the Baroque through the emblematic language expressed in the engravings of For Children: The Gates of Paradise from 1793, analysing them in starting from the iconographic-iconological method of Erwin Panofsky and establishing a dialogue with authors who undertook similar research.
