Abstract

Hayden White's assertion that the historiographical craft is marked by historical imagination and narrative caused great provocation in the international debate. This paper aims to analyze one of the main Brazilian history theory journals, História da Historiografia, to understand the author's various readings over the last decade, defining the argumentative strategies used and the interpretations made about the literary effects on historical writing. More specifically, we are trying to understand how his ideas have been appropriated and their impact on understanding the boundaries between history and literature and, with this, to diagnose historiographical dynamics and possibilities for studies around White's theory concerning historical writing and interpretation.
