Abstract

This article intends to reflect on the role of advertising in the migratory project of Immigration Center Society, which worked in the late nineteenth century in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was published in the newsletter "A Immigração", produced and distributed by the own institution and it had as main objectives: to promote the debate on immigration issues and on possible political and social obstacles that prevented a migratory flow of European rural workers to Brazil and after that to attract the desired immigrants to the country. The advertising is thought here on two fronts: First, the internal one dedicated to politicians and to Brazilian agrarian elite and other, the external one, focused on European rural workers who were interested in seeking work in the American Continent.
