The political organization and power structure in the Portuguese Guinea (1946)
Abstract
The colonization undertaken in Africa in the final years of the 19th century by European countries constituted a turning point in the history of the people who inhabited the conquered areas. This contact, mediated by violence, builds a new political and social organization for ethnic groups. Given this, this article seeks to outline, albeit briefly, this power structure, as well as the political organization, which allows the domination of the territory currently located in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The beginning of the 20th century meant, for the Guinean people, the conquest and consolidation of Portuguese domination. However, the aftermath of the Second World War dealt a strong blow to colonial possessions. Discussions about Human Rights encouraged the debate about the self-determination of people, thus demanding a change on the part of the metropolis, Portugal. In view of this, we analyze some articles published in the Boletim Cultural da Guiné Portuguesa in 1946, this being the first year of circulation of the magazine.
