O maestro: Afonso Arinos na liderança udenista (1952-1954)

Resumo

Este trabalho examina a chegada de Arinos à liderança da UDN na Câmara e seus primeiros desafios na função. Depois de vencer uma série de resistências para chegar à liderança udenista, o político se tornou o regente da “Banda de Música”. O grupo combateu incansavelmente o governo Vargas no plenário. A fim de se afirmar no posto, o político defendeu o Acordo Militar com os EUA. Quando não foi possível vencer dentro das normas legais, o jurista Afonso Arinos chegou, inclusive, a jogar com as “soluções extraordinárias”, tão propaladas pela minoritária, contudo incômoda facção radical da UDN. A despeito de tudo isso, os udenistas ainda assim não conseguiram chegar ao poder.

ABSTRACT: This article examines the arrival of Arinos leadership UDN in the parliament and his early challenges in the function. After winning a series of resistances to reach the UDN leadership, the political became the conductor of the "Music Band". The group tirelessly fought the Vargas government in plenary. In order to assert itself in the function, the political defended the military agreement with the US. When it was not possible to win within the current law, the lawyer Afonso Arinos came even to play with the "extraordinary solutions", as propagate the minority, however uncomfortable radical faction of the UDN. Despite all this, the UDN still failed to come to power.
