Mulheres libertas e suas relações familiares no Norte do Brasil oitocentista (Paraíba do Norte, 1833-1860)

Resumo

Desde a primeira metade do século XIX, foram criadas leis que, de forma gradual e lenta, resultaram na Abolição da escravatura, em 1888. Ao longo desse processo, não somente a sociedade paraibana, como a brasileira, estava inserida num cenário de diversidade étnica/racial e de posições jurídicas diversas, em que as pessoas negras poderiam ser de condição livre, liberta ou escravizada. Pensando nessa complexidade, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo: investigar os arranjos familiares das mulheres libertas que batizaram seus filhos na freguesia de Nossa Senhora das Neves (atual João Pessoa). O estudo foi baseado numa perspectiva da História Social e utilizando metodologicamente a Demografia Histórica, que possibilita análises quantitativas e qualitativas. O estudo foi realizado com base em um Banco de Dados dos Registros de batismo da Freguesia de Nossa Senhora das Neves/Cidade da Parahyba entre os anos de 1833 a 1860, e fontes secundárias.

ABSTRACT: Since the first half of the nineteenth century gradually and slowly some laws were created, which some way has resulted in the Abolition of slavery in 1888. Along this entire process, not only the Paraíba but the whole Brazilian society had been inserted in a scenario of ethnic/racial diversity in which black people could have various legal positions: as a free, liberated or slavish person. Considering this complexity, this paper aims to investigate the living arrangements of women who delivered their children baptized in the parish of Our Lady of the Snows (current city of João Pessoa). The study was based on a perspective of social history and using methodologically Historical Demography, which allows quantitative and qualitative analysis. The study was based on a database of baptism records of the Parish of Our Lady of the Snows/City of Parahyba, between the years 1833-1860, and secondary sources.
