Abstract

The history of Brazilian theater has been written from the Rio-São Paulo epicenter perspective, neglecting the richness and diversity of productions outside this axis, which is a gap that research in dramaturgy and theater has tried to fill. The aim of this paper is to reflect on the importance of dramaturgy and Northern Paraná, Brazil, by analysing two theater groups – PROTEU, Projeto de Teatro Experimental Universitário, based in Londrina; and TUM, Teatro Universitário de Maringá. The groups’ productions will be analyzed considering their political engagement and the dialogue with the critical thought of Bertolt Brecht, creating innovative works in formal and thematic terms that contributed to the development of a critical theater, both at regional and national level.
