“Discordâncias infinitas” em Entre os atos de Virginia Woolf

O presente artigo pretende discutir o último romance da escritora inglesa Virginia Woolf, Entre os atos (1941), em conexão com suas percepções acerca da ficção moderna e de seus possíveis desenvolvimentos após a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tal qual Eagleton (2005) e Bakhtin (2014), entre outros teóricos, Woolf via o romance como uma forma “canibal”, capaz de englobar todas as outras. Assim, ensaios como “Poesia, ficção e o futuro” (1927) e “Fases da ficção” (1929) demonstram o interesse da autora em investigar o status da ficção em seu tempo e sua visão de que transpor os limites entre poesia, prosa e drama possibilitaria novos caminhos para a representação da vida moderna. Logo, na medida em que é inerente à forma do romance resistir a regras e definições, Woolf entende que esta seria a melhor maneira de retratar as muitas contrariedades de sentimentos e vivências do indivíduo no início do século XX.
