A obra Traffic, do escritor estadunidense Kenneth Goldsmith, transcreve 24 horas de uma rádio de trânsito em Nova Iorque em plena véspera de um feriado prolongado. Com o aspecto de um hiper-realismo angustiante, a obra pode ser compreendida dentro de uma tradição da arte conceitual e arte pop norte-americana. Ela coloca diante dos estudos literários o problema de uma indistinguibilidade material entre obra de arte e objeto comum. A partir de um exame pormenor das reflexões do filósofo estadunidense Arthur Danto acerca de uma indistinguibilidade fenomênica, o presente artigo pretende analisar quais as implicações que tal teoria da arte pode ter para a compreensão de Traffic e quais as consequências de compreendê-la como uma obra de arte literária.
