Milk, a noble food of great importance for dairy production can suffer negative impacts, especially with the occurrence of diseases, such as mastitis, which causes changes in pH, which makes it more alkaline. Mastitis caused by Strepto- coccus uberis (S. uberis), an environmental etiological agent, requires ß-lactam-based treatments, usually prolonged due to the difficulty in treating them. In this sense, it is known that the alkaline pH hydrolyses ß-lactams in liquid media, thus, the objective of this study was to observe whether the alkaline pH of cow’s milk with environmental mastitis causes inactivation or reduction of antimicrobial action. For this purpose, healthy milk and animals with mastitis were transferred from a rural property in Córrego Fundo-MG, where the pH was measured and sterilization was performed for inoculation of S. uberis strains (previously isolated) together with a commercial antimicrobial base of amoxicilline and clavulanato. At the end, bacterial growth was verified in all different samples. An antibiogram was performed with the isolated sample of S. uberis to verify the absence of antimicrobial resistance, where the sample did
not present resistance. Within the experimental conditions, the microorganism showed a different growth behavior in view of the different pH of the samples, growing more (p < 0,01) in mastitis milk with pH 7,6, in antimicrobial presence. Thus, it is emphasized the need for further pharmacological studies regarding antimicrobials use in mastitis.
