A message from the new Editor-in-Chief to the Per Musi community
Dear authors, reviewers, and readers of Per Musi,
I am writing to introduce myself as the new Editor-in-Chief of Per Musi – Academic Music Journal. I was appointed by the Board of the Graduate Program in Music at UFMG in August 2026. My name is Ricardo Lima (Frei); I am a professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and a faculty member of PPGMUS/UFMG. I take on this role with a deep sense of responsibility toward a journal that, for more than two decades, has been a reference for music research in Brazil and abroad.
First of all, I wish to acknowledge Prof. Fernando Chaib and the team who worked with him for their dedicated service to the journal in recent years.
We are aware that many of you have been waiting for some time for progress on submissions, reviews, and publications. The change in editorship and the institutional circumstances of recent months led to a backlog of pending tasks and caused delays in several of the journal's procedures. We sincerely apologize for the wait and thank you for your patience and trust.
Since the transition, we have been working systematically to resolve these pending matters. Current efforts include:
- regularizing the delivery of articles to indexing databases, with deliveries already completed;
- resuming the assessment of submissions that were awaiting processing;
- reviewing editorial tools and procedures to make the workflow faster, more transparent, and aligned with open science practices.
The editorial workflow will return to normal gradually and steadily. New updates will be posted on this page whenever there is significant progress.
To allow us to complete these steps with due care, submissions to the General Topics section remain temporarily suspended. Their reopening will be announced on this page.
Authors with submissions in progress can follow their status through the system. Inquiries may be sent to permusiufmg@gmail.com.
I thank the entire community in advance for its collaboration and reaffirm our commitment to the quality, integrity, and continuity of Per Musi.
Sincerely,
Ricardo Lima (Frei)
Editor-in-Chief – Per Musi
