O trabalho aborda o significado da obra para piano “The Anti-Abolitionist Riots in the 1830’s and 1840’s” de Charles Ives. A história intelectual permite analizar sua concepção do mundo junto com as influências compositivas e ideológicas que nutriram suas criações. A tomada de consciência histórica sobre os altercados e os confrontos de rua entre os defensores da escravidão e os abolicionistas feriam a sensibilidade do joven músico, que se viu compelido a evocar estes acontecimentos. O conflito social não somente ainda se encontrava vigente no inicio do século XX, mas había recrusdescido ao som de novas circunstâncias. Conclui-se que a memória dos distúrbios mereceu por parte do artista sua representação estética e que sua capacidade de evocar a sobrevivência do passado dá um sentido pleno à partitura. entido pleno à partitura.
