Call for submissions
Per Musi is pleased to announce the Thematic Session Hermeto Pascoal - 90 years of Sounds, in honour of the sonic and inventive legacy of this unique Brazilian music artist. Born on 22 June 1936 in Lagoa da Canoa, Alagoas, Hermeto Pascoal built a profoundly original musical career, marked by experimentation, creative freedom and a remarkable contribution to contemporary musical language. Turning 90 in 2026, he is still very active and his work is an inexhaustible source of study, inspiration and challenge for musicians and researchers. We hope to receive articles, reviews, interviews, translations and/or scores that explore multiple aspects of Hermeto Pascoal's work from perspectives such as historical musicology, musical analysis, composition, instrumentation, performance practices, extended techniques, improvisation, genres and songs, as well as case studies on specific works, arrangements or recordings - including investigations into ‘iron music’ and ‘aura music’, among other aspects of his unique production. At the same time, this call proposes approaches to Hermeto Pascoal's multiple creative modalities as a solo musician, in a group, live or in the studio, on tours, as a leader, sideman, composer, arranger and innovator of musical writing, ways of using the body, gestures, the voice, drawings, audiovisual media, etc.
