This article analyzes the impacts of generative artificial intelligence on higher education, linking this phenomenon to the advance of platform capitalism and the intensification of the corporatization and financialization of education. With the emergence of models of artificial intelligence, there is a growing automation of pedagogical tasks mediated by algorithms, especially in distance learning courses, promoting the reduction of operational costs and the replacement of teacher mediation by digital platforms. These transformations occur in a context of neoliberal hegemony, where market rationality reshapes educational institutions based on performance metrics, competitiveness, and financial returns. The exponential growth of distance learning and the concentration of the educational sector in large private groups highlight the weakening of smaller institutions and the risk of precarization of academic labor. The concept of “technological trap” is also discussed, denouncing the structural dependency on technical solutions promoted by corporations, which obscure ethical and pedagogical alternatives. In response to this scenario, the article advocates for strong public regulatory policies grounded in principles of social justice, human centrality, transparency, and epistemological diversity. It concludes that the adoption of educational technologies must be accompanied by a critical, broad, and democratic debate, committed to the emancipation of individuals and the preservation of the humanistic values of education.
