With the expansion of generative artificial intelligence among ordinary users, a significant transformation has been observed in the way content is produced and disseminated. This study aims to understand how the theme of artificial intelligence is being applied to education, to identify gaps, possibilities, and trends that can support future research, especially those related to teacher training (initial or continuing). This is a review of academic literature, carried out within the scope of a doctoral research project, based on data collected from 2022 to 2024. The abstracts of the documents were submitted to discursive textual analysis. The results reveal that the studies address possibilities for using artificial intelligence for different activities, especially in higher education. They also suggest the need for critical evaluation and training of students and teachers, in addition to identifying ethical challenges. Although the importance of teacher training is recognized, the field still lacks investigations into strategies, methodologies, or policies for initial and continuing training in this context.
