Rafael Evangelista holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), where he works as a professor and researcher at the Laboratory for Advanced Studies in Journalism (Labjor). He is a co-founder of the Latin American Network of Studies on Surveillance, Technology, and Society (Lavits) and serves on the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) as a representative of the scientific and technological community, actively contributing to debates on regulation, digital sovereignty, and information technologies. In this interview, Rafael Evangelista reflects on the impacts of artificial intelligence on higher education, discussing its effects on academic work, student training, and institutional autonomy. He criticizes the hasty and uncritical adoption of these technologies, highlighting the loss of human skills and the risk of deepening the commodification of education. Evangelista also advocates for public and community-based technological appropriation as a path toward a more conscious and sovereign relationship with artificial intelligence.
