Methods: cross-sectional, descriptive study with data from the National Survey of School Health. The prevalence and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) of the indicators of exposure to situations of violence involving adolescents were described and compared. Results: 11.6% reported having missed school: due to insecurity on the way (95%CI: 11.1;12.1); 10.8% due to insecurity at school (95%CI:10.3;11.2); higher prevalences were in girls and students from public schools. 10.6% (95%CI:10.2;11.0) were involved in fights with physical fights, 2.9% (95%CI:2.7;3.1) in fights with the use of firearms; use of bladed weapon 4.8% (95%CI:4.5;5.1), most were boys, from public schools. 18.2% (95%CI:17.7;18.7) reported having suffered an accident or aggression in the last year, 21.0% (95%CI:20.5;21.6) were assaulted by the mother/father/guardian and most private schools. Improvements in the indicators between 2015 and 2019: involved in a fight with a firearm, 6.4% (95%CI:5.6;7.2) (2015) to 2.9% (95%CI:2.7;3 ,1) (2019), and fighting with a knife, from 7.9% (95%CI:7.0;8.8) (2015) to 4.8% (95%CI:4.5;5.1) (2019). Conclusion: adolescents are exposed to violence in the school or community environment, in addition to suffering violence in the intra-family/domestic environment. These institutions should be able to guarantee the protection and healthy and safe development of adolescents.
