The Brazilian Public Health System developed a health surveillance policy and the Family Health Strategy (FHS) represents a way to change the usual healthcare model. This study aims to characterize the healthcare actions carried out by the Family Health Units of Marília, São Paulo. It is a descriptive and analytical study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, based on three main subjects: health promotion, prevention of diseases and complications, and social participation. The results show that the teams propose strategies that are consistent with the Public Health System, although it is necessary to offer more activities, to get the community involved and to broaden social participation in order to promote health and an active citizenship.Downloads
