Abstract

Therapeutic Touch is a contemporan interpretation of many ancient healing practices. The purpose of this study was to accomplish a survey of the existent literature, analyzing reference index, publication year and type. CINAHL, MEDLINE and LILACS were searched. The MEDLINE search verified the language and country of publication. The publications were registered in individual files and because of their number (492) they were inserted in a computer database for analysis. 352 publications were indexed in CINAHL, 139 in MEDLINE and 02 in LILACS. The most frequent type was "journal article". The most used language was english (126) and the publication country was USA (97). The high number of publications about Therapeutic Touch in a recent period can justify the interest for nurses in knowing their basics, how it works and the outcomes of its application.
